Bi-Level Volt/VAR Optimization in Distribution Networks With Smart PV Inverters

نویسندگان

چکیده

Optimal Volt/VAR control (VVC) in distribution networks relies on an effective coordination between the conventional utility-owned mechanical devices and smart residential photovoltaic (PV) inverters. Typically, a central controller carries out periodic optimization sends setpoints to local of each device. However, instead tracking centrally dispatched setpoints, PV inverters can cooperate much faster timescale reach optimality within inverter group. To accommodate such groups VVC architecture, this paper proposes bi-level framework. The upper-level determines minimize network active power losses, while lower-level represents coordinated actions that take for their own objectives. interactions these two levels are captured optimization, which is solved using Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions. This framework fully exploits capabilities different types voltage regulation enables them cooperatively optimize goals. Case studies typical with field-recorded data demonstrate effectiveness advantages proposed approach.

A Bi-Level Optimization Approach for Optimal Operation of Distribution Networks with Retailers and Micro-grids

Distributed energy resources (DERs) including distributed generators (DGs) and controllable loads (CLs) are managed in the form of several microgrids (MGs) in active distributions networks (ADNs) to meet the demand locally. On the other hand, some loads of distribution networks (DNs) can be supplied by retailers which participate in wholesale energy markets. Therefore, there are several decisio...

Market Based Control of PV Inverters in a Distribution System

OF THESIS MARKET BASED CONTROL OF PV INVERTERS IN A DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM A growing energy crisis, a rapid climate change, and a constant depletion of fossil fuel necessitates the role of renewable energy resources like PV (Photovoltaics) and wind energy to form a group of distributed sources of generation. A group of PV and wind energy generation units may work together as micro players to form ...

Smart Grid Inverters to Support Photovoltaics in Distribution Systems

With increasing penetration levels of solar PV, the need for inverter technology to provide grid support has become more and more critical. Since 2009, EPRI and industry partners have been working to establish a common set of functions that can provide such capability. The development of a common set of functions is complete, however, very little work to date has addressed the impact these comm...
